Congratulations to Cityline and the Village at Roosevelt as the Best Projects of 2020!
We are excited to recognize the best mixed-income & best affordable housing projects reviewed by our members in 2020. Catalyze SV’s Project Advocacy Committee reviewed 11 projects in 2020 with Cityline by Sares Regis & Hunter Properties and The Village at Roosevelt by First Community Housing standing out as the best projects based on the score received by our members.
Best Mixed-income Project of 2020: Cityline by Sares Regis
In 2020 Cityline by Sares Regis and Hunter Properties was the best mixed-income housing project presented to Catalyze SV and the type of large transit-oriented development we hope to see across Silicon Valley. Cityline in downtown Sunnyvale was reviewed by Catalyze SV & Livable Sunnyvale in April 2020 receiving a score of 4.14 out of 5.
Cityline includes 786 homes (88 affordable), 132,715 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, 569,258 square feet of office making it a mixed-use, 24/7 transit-oriented community. The project also included a redwood public square, extends historic Murphy Street and the entire development is filled with shopping, public art, and restaurants to create a welcoming and vibrant place.
Sares Regis undertook an impressive community engagement process in both the amount of time spent and variety of events hosted. This allowed Sares Regis to gain the trust of the community and increase the amount of affordable and market rate housing allowed at the site. We hope the Cityline can serve as an example of what is possible for large scale mixed-use projects throughout the Caltrain Corridor.

Best Affordable Housing of 2020: The Village at Roosevelt by First Community Housing
In 2020 the Village at Roosevelt by First Community Housing was the best affordable housing project presented to Catalyze SV and an innovative project that we hope to see repeated throughout the region. The Village at Roosevelt was reviewed by Catalyze SV’s members in December 2020 scoring an impressive 4.5 out of 5.
This project will bring 125 affordable homes with up to 50% supportive housing (for the formally homeless) including services on a 0.4 acres lot (300 du/ac) in the Roosevelt neighborhood of San Jose. The development includes a basement with resident amenities, a ground-floor retail/services podium & 7 additional floors, creating an innovative project we hope can be replicated across the region.
The Village at Roosevelt takes an ambitious approach in addressing sustainability. With a commitment to LEED Platinum & rooftop solar, this project incorporates substantial green building features and will minimize its environmental impact. It takes a comprehensive approach to reduce personal automobile trips including giving free VTA Smart Passes to all residents. Additionally, 216 secure bike parking spaces (1.7 per unit) & car parking limited to 2 spaces for residents (0.02 spaces per unit) are both the most ambitious ratios for a project ever presented to Catalyze SV.
